Big Brother Watch is a campaign organisation that seeks to defend our civil liberties and privacy. Producing insightful research on the surveillance state, misuse of personal information and encroachments on personal liberty, Big Brother Watch is at the forefront of media debate across the country.

The coming year promises to be an exciting one for Big Brother Watch. The Olympics, a renewed attack on online privacy and the aftermath of the London riots and will all put civil liberties and personal privacy on the mainstream news agenda. Building on work done in 2011, Big Brother Watch aims to be a focused, well-respected campaigning group on a range of core privacy, liberty and surveillance issues.

To support Big Brother Watch’s ambition to lead the civil liberties debate in 2012, we are looking for an ambitious Research Director to join our team to assist with research projects, social media outreach and Parliamentary liaison.

The role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Leading Big Brother Watch’s Freedom of Information activity and ensuring a high standard of data integrity
  • Managing the production of research data and quality assurance
  • Managing the day-to-day research workload of interns
  • Liaising with the Director on strategic direction and potential research projects
  • Supporting the Director with media, digital and public affairs activity where required

Candidates should/will:

  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Be familiar with the Freedom of Information Act request process
  • Be comfortable using word processing and spread sheet software (for example, Excel)
  • Be able to work under pressure and be part of a dynamic national campaigning team
  • Have a good knowledge of national and regional media and politics
  • Be able to assist with content management and pay close attention to detail
  • Be sympathetic with the aims of Big Brother Watch
  • Be confident and competent in oral and written communication
  • Be able to work as part of a small team

Interviews will be arranged with potential candidates following receipt of CVs.

We are looking to appoint a candidate to start as soon as possible.

If a suitable candidate is found before the closing date we may appoint early.
