Paul Burstow MP and Sutton Liberal Democrats are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working Constituency and Campaigns Intern to help in our busy constituency office on our GLA election campaign.

This internship is an excellent chance to get first-hand knowledge and experience in Liberal Democrat campaigning, policy research and casework.

Interns will have the opportunity to get involved with many aspects of running a campaign, including:

Conducting research, Drafting correspondence, Office clerical tasks, Activist and membership development, Contributing to literature production and design, Doorstep campaigning, Providing support to the Campaigns Team, Assisting in office administration, Liaising with local campaigners, and organise local campaigning sessions, Engaging volunteers and activists using the telephone and email, Participating in on-the-ground campaigning, E-campaigning, including monitoring, updating and uploading materials to web pages, Accompanying Paul and local councillors campaigning, Assisting with Voter ID and updating Voter ID and other databases, Assisting in the organisation and running of events, Media monitoring

Useful skills:

Good standard of written English, Excellent interpersonal skills and a confident telephone manner, Good ICT skills, The ability to work within a small team, Ability to prioritise tasks, Ability to work on your own initiative, Ability to work in a flexible environment, Working knowledge of politics and political processes, Interest in campaigns management and political strategy, Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats. You must not be a member of another political party.

Applicants must be motivated and reliable.

We would welcome candidates who are available for some weekends and evenings. Applicants will get the most out of the experience being with us 1-2 days a week.

Training will be provided.

Past volunteers have secured employment with MPs so this post would suit anyone seeking a career in politics.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
