Job Details

Involve is looking for an intern to help us migrate, improve and develop our www.peopleandparticipation.net site. The site is the UKs portal for public participation practitioners, and consists of case studies, resources and methods.

Role

  • Migrating significant amounts of data from the old site to the new site. During the transfer, this content will need to be checked and updated. For example, language may need tightening, or sections updated to reflect the current political climate.
  • Researching and writing up new case studies and methodologies. This will include contacting participation practitioners working in the field.
  • Contributing to Involve’s other social media and communications activities, for example improving our facebook site, updating the main Involve website, contributing to the production of the Involve e-newsletter and supporting Involve’s webinar series.

The position would be suitable for a post-graduate looking for part-time work experience. It offers the chance to work in a dynamic non-profit environment, working alongside a young team. The role would suit someone with a passion for democracy and public participation.

Candidates will have to demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge as a minimum:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience
  • A proven ability to write clearly, concisely and in an engaging manner
  • Good computer skills (experience working on the website platform WordPress is desirable, but you will not need website development skills).

What you will gain

  • The skills needed for working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • A good understanding of the latest thinking in public participation and dialogue techniques
  • Contacts with a number of practitioners working in the field
  • The ability to manage the content of websites and social media platforms
  • Experience of writing public blog posts, articles and e-newsletters
  • Experience working in the voluntary sector

Conditions

2.5 days/week for 3 months.

Closing Date: 8 June 2012

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews are expected to be held on the 19th June. Start date can be negotiated.
