Job Details:

As the Parliamentary Affairs Intern, you will be given exposure to the following areas:
- House of Commons and the House of Lords
- Gaining first hand experience of dealing with MPs and Peers
- Opportunities to learn about the process of policy making

In return, we would need you to:
- Monitor, evaluate and report on relevant committees , debates and current affairs
- Research and prepare briefs
- Prepare NFU Parliamentary updates
- Produce articles for the NFU website and Journal British Farmer and Grower
- Field enquiries
- Support the Office Management team with administrative tasks

To enable you to work effectively we will build on your current knowledge by arranging short placements at other NFU offices, which will include a trip to Brussels where we represent the interests of UK Farmers and Growers at the heart of the European decision making process. There will also be an opportunity to visit members at grass roots level and be inducted at our HQ in Warwickshire. We are keen to ensure that you gain an overall understanding of how a trade association operates and that you benefit from your time spent with us.

The position of Parliamentary Affairs Intern would suit someone with the following attributes:
- Keen to develop their skills
- Looking to progress in the political field
- Ideally with an interest in rural/agricultural/environmental issues
- Must have a degree in Politics/Government/Public Policy/Social sciences or similar
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Experience of carrying out research
- Experience of writing reports
- Ability to use own initiative
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office
