The Royal College of Physicians is looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join their award winning external affairs team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic fast learner committed to a career in public affairs and communications.

As public affairs and PR Intern, you will support the External Affairs team in a wide range of parliamentary and communications activities, including public affairs, media relations, event management, internal communications and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate will be able to apply transferable skills to organise important public affairs and media events, answer enquiries from parliamentarians, the media and stakeholders and draft parliamentary and media briefings. Candidates should be self-starters that thrive on working within an ambitious team.

The RCP expects candidates to exercise judgement in dealing with privileged information, communicate well and have good interpersonal skills. Candidates should have an understanding of political processes and be able to summarise complex information and communicate it effectively.

The external affairs team has enjoyed demonstrable success working with government and stakeholders to secure positive change in health policy recently. Come and contribute to our team during this exciting, fast paced and fulfilling time.

This is a six month internship with a generous remuneration package. The successful candidate will receive £16,000 per annum pro rata to the appointment length and 27 days annual leave per annum, again pro rata. There is also a free staff lunch and subsidised cafe. (Please note that the successful candidate will need to meet daily travel costs to and from the RCP, the £16,000 to be paid has considered travel and subsistence costs. Any additional expenses incurred by the appointee as a result of official RCP business will be reimbursed.)

This internship is aimed at people who want to establish a career in public affairs. The RCP welcomes applications from candidates wanting their first professional experience in this area.
