The Elders are independent global leaders working together for peace and human rights. The group was founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007.
We are offering a four to six month paid Policy Internship in our busy London office, starting in January 2013. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented graduate interested in international advocacy to be part of a highly motivated and professional team.
Applicants must be enthusiastic and well-organised and have excellent research and writing skills. He or she should have a proven interest in international affairs, as well as affinity with the work of The Elders.
Main areas of work
The Policy Intern has the opportunity to work and develop skills in the following areas:
- Conducting research on areas of Elders' current engagement and potential new areas;
- Supporting Policy Officers in drafting strategic and substantive policy briefings and other writing tasks;
- Assisting with contact and information management;
- Assisting with organisational support to the policy team.
Internships with The Elders are highly competitive. We are looking for applicants with the following skills and qualities:
- Academic background or professional experience in politics, international relations, history, human rights, development or a related field;
- Excellent written and spoken English;
- Excellent research skills;
- Ability to synthesise complex information into clear notes and briefing materials;
- Accuracy and an eye for detail;
- Well-organised and efficient;
- Good team player;
- flexible and keen to learn new skills.

Eligibility criteria and terms
- UK or EU university graduates and post-graduate students are welcome to apply;
- Non-EU candidates must present a visa that permits student placement;
- This internship is offered on a minimum 4 days per week basis;
- Remuneration is based on the national minimum wage and paid on a monthly basis.
Interviews will be held in the second week of December 2012.
