Key Tasks

• Manage the Member of Parliament’s constituency office, ensuring effective interactions with people and organisations within the constituency, via direction and co-ordination of the Constituency Office staff, facilities and resources and support to the MP

• Ensuring that constituents' enquiries and issues are dealt with in an appropriate, timely and courteous manner, monitoring all incoming correspondence and telephone enquiries and outgoing responses on the Member’s behalf.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure effective management & execution of casework

• Manage MP’s engagement with people & organisations within the constituency

• Proactively engage the local media with the MP’s work and reactively handle enquiries from the media

• Manage the provision of secretarial services to the MP, including:

• Develop and present intelligence about the constituency and its issues

• Manage progress of MP’s engagement in major local issues

• Manage the resources of the Constituency Office, including:

- Set up and maintain systems for office and document management;

- Manage, support and develop other team members in the constituency office;

- Manage other contributions to the work of the constituency office via volunteers and work placements;

- Manage the Constituency Office finances and set up and manage systems for accurate accounting;

- Manage Constituency Office accommodation and facilities to ensure that these meet the requirements of the office’s functions and staff;

- Ensure that business continuity arrangements are in place in the event of a major incident that disrupts day-to-day business.

The postholder will work closely with staff in the MP's Parliamentary Office to ensure effective liaison and co-ordination of activity.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
