Job Title: Casework Intern

Working For: John Leech MP & Manchester Withington Liberal Democats

Location: Didsbury, South Manchester

Salary: None - volunteer

Length of Contract:

Job Details

The casework intern role is to provide an opportunity for a candidate to develop their casework skills. This will be achieved by supporting the Casework team, local councillors, other volunteers and John Leech MP in resolving issues raised by local constituents.

John Leech MP has a strong reputation for championing his constituents. As a result this office is very busy, with a much higher than average number of issues raised.

The casework undertaken gives the successful candidate an opportunity to develop skills such as:

  • Advocacy
  • Working with people in stressful situations
  • Supporting the public
  • Administration
  • Problem resolution

Which are used to deliver positive outcomes for constituents with a broad range of concerns including immigration, local council services, governmental services and financial services. Therefore the successful candidate would be able to develop a broader range of skills from the internship if they choose to undertake it for 3 months or more.

Applicants will need to demonstrate team working, computer, and writing skills and an understanding of confidentiality. We expect an excellent standard of written and verbal communication along with an energetic can-do attitude. Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humour are also keenly desired.

This would be a full-time role, however we would welcome applications from those unable to work full-time.

The duration of the role would be a minimum of 3 months FT to 12 months PT.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
