CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale is recruiting a Campaigns Assistant Intern for a period of six months.

Working as part of a small Campaigns and Public Affairs team, this is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about campaigning to gain valuable political experience, develop contacts and get established as a public affairs or campaigning professional within a volunteer-led organisation. This role will be based in CAMRA’s office in St Albans - an 18 minute train journey from London St Pancras.

Job Description

  • Represent CAMRA at events, external meetings and receptions
  • Help to plan, administer and evaluate campaigning activity
  • Update and develop content on CAMRA’s website, including writing blog posts and news items communicating our campaigns
  • Help to organise CAMRA’s membership-led lobbying campaigns, including by setting up campaigning websites, drafting suggested emails for CAMRA members to send to their MPs, and handling members’ queries
  • Build support for CAMRA’s campaigns from MPs and Peers
  • Contribute to CAMRA’s submissions to Government consultations
  • Work with CAMRA’s Campaigns Manager to support CAMRA’s secretariat role for the All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group
  • Assist in organising Parliamentary receptions in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff
  • Draft letters to MPs, Ministers and officials
  • Parliamentary Monitoring

Job Specification

  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to get to grips quickly with complex issues
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office to a high level
  • A good team player
  • Dedicated and hard-working
  • Professional and well-presented
  • Exceptional written communication skills, which can be adapted for both formal and campaigns communications
  • Strong attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Willing to show initiative

Desirable:

  • An interest in pubs and real ale
  • Experience of working or volunteering in a campaigning environment

This role will involve some evening and weekend work and time off in lieu will be provided for this where possible.
