Location: Based in Didsbury, Manchester

Job Details

This intern role is to provide an opportunity for a candidate to develop a wide range of marketable skills including Fundraising, Press, E-Communications and Diary work. You will be supporting the work of the Head of Diary and E Communication, local councillors, other volunteers and John Leech MP.

John Leech MP has a strong role to play in championing the constituents of South Manchester. John is the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport. He is also a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, as well as being active on a number of all party parliamentary groups (chairing two), and working hard to represent his constituents in Parliament.

He strongly believes in keeping his constituents informed through a range of channels, including a Web page, Blog, Twitter, Press Releases, leaflets and interviews with the media

This gives the successful candidate an opportunity to develop skills such as:

  • Keeping and managing the MP's diary
  • Fundraising
  • E Communication
  • Copy, Media & Press work

You will be helping John communicate with his constituents, and raising funds to pay for that communication. Therefore the successful candidate would be able to develop a broader range of skills from the internship if they choose to undertake it for a minimum of 3 months (full-time) up to 12 months (part-time). We would welcome applications from those unable to work full-time.

Applicants will need to demonstrate team working, computer, and writing skills and an understanding of confidentiality. We expect an excellent standard of written and verbal communication along with an energetic can-do attitude. Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humour are also keenly desired.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
