HOPE not hate is the largest antifascist and anti-racist campaign in the UK. We are committed to celebrating Britain’s diverse society and exposing the people and organisations which promote organised hate both at home and abroad. HOPE not hate is both a political campaign and an educational charity.

HOPE not hate is starting a new office based internship programme, which will run throughout the year. We currently have an opening for an intern to support our national team with the development and delivery of our campaigning and monitoring of political extremists, both during the imminent local elections and in the production of our next two editions of the HOPE not hate magazine. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative team player with a keen and demonstrable interest in anti-racism and investigative journalism.

As part of a small expert team you will work on both local and national campaigns undertaking a variety of tasks. You will gain experience in:

  • Local and national campaign support
  • Organising events and conferences
  • Developing mobilisation strategies
  • Research
  • Contacting external stakeholders
  • Creating content for websites and publications
  • Managing databases

The successful candidates will possess the following skills and experience (all desirable, not essential):

  • Knowledge of political extremism and the impact on communities
  • Previous journalism experience
  • Awareness of HOPE not hate and what we do
  • A keen desire to learn more about anti-fascism and anti-racism
  • An appreciation of the importance of policy in campaigning - using evidence to fight and win campaigns
  • Ability to passionately communicate about the issues facing communities
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail with some basic research experience
  • Ability to multitask and determine priority projects/assignments
  • Ability to work within a fast paced environment and respond to requests in a timely fashion
  • Ability to think critically and independently
  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office systems and some experience with general administration

This is a paid internship (at the London Living Wage), it will be based in London and successful candidates will be required to work 35 hours per week.

Interviews will be on Monday 8th April

The internship will begin on April 15th 2013 and will run for 12 weeks.
