The Standing Committee for Youth Justice is a coalition of more than 25 voluntary organisations focussed on achieving youth justice reform. We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our small staff team in Angel, London on a paid internship.

The placement is for two days per week for a period of 9 months (with possibility of extension) and will be paid at the London Living Wage (£8.55 per hour). An interest in youth and/or criminal justice issues and sympathy with our principles is highly desirable. Experience of working with the media, writing press releases, and placing stories would also be advantageous. As a paid intern you will support the work of the busy organisation with research and administration duties, and have the opportunity to gain experience of policy work and parliamentary campaigning. During the placement, you can expect to do the following:

  • Collate and circulate the weekly and monthly youth justice e-bulletins;
  • Participate in the Committee’s internal and external meetings;
  • Contribute to SCYJ’s campaigning activities through research, writing and analysis;
  • Build our online and social media presence through regular updates of our website and Twitter account;
  • Help to grow SCYJ’s membership by approaching new potential members;
  • Organise meetings and other SCYJ events;
  • Assist with writing press releases and placing stories in the media; and
  • Attend meetings and conferences, including taking and circulating notes.

Interview/Start Dates

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted after the closing date. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 21 May, with a start date as soon as possible after this date. We are looking for the successful candidate to work with us on Mondays and Tuesdays, ideally.
