Job Details
This post is designed as a first step into the political world and an opportunity to learn about work in Westminster as a core member of the Fabian staff team for a one year period. People from backgrounds that are under-represented in Westminster and at the Fabian Society are particularly encouraged to apply. This includes women, disabled people and people from low-income or minority ethnic backgrounds. Appointments are based on merit alone.
The Development Programme posts are twelve-month appointments paid at the London Living Wage. The programme will offer:
• a full induction programme, including meetings with senior staff
• a structured work programme, designed to broaden skills and experience
• an agreed development plan and regular professional supervision
• at least one project the post-holder personally leads and shapes
• end-of-contract support, including careers advice and help job hunting
You will also benefit more informally from peer-to-peer support and the experience of working for a leading think tank at the heart of the Westminster community and the labour movement. You will have the opportunity to attend political seminars, lectures and conferences; write articles and blogs for political audiences; and contribute fully to internal brainstorming and ‘pitching’ meetings.
The post has a dedicated area of responsibility (ie events). In addition a core part of the role will be to provide administrative support for the society as a whole (expected to be 20% of the role).
