Purpose of Job
To work with the National Policy Committee, external organisations and elected politicians to lead the policy development programme of the Welsh Liberal Democrats providing high quality policy development on a wide range of topics to maximize the impact the of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
Main Duties
In addition to the Job Specification for the Policy Officer post at the Assembly, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following duties:
- To draw up, implement and regularly review a strategic 3 year policy development plan.
- To lead on the preparation of party manifestos for all major elections in Wales.
- To work with Federal and Welsh party staff to ensure that that policy is accurately reflected in campaign messages and material.
- To coordinate and contribute substantially to policy reviews and associated documents.
- To liaise with the National Policy Committee and contribute to its smooth and effective running and ensure its workplan reflects the policy development plan.
- To act as advisor to Conference Committee on the conference agenda and lead on the management of policy debates in the lead up to and during Welsh Liberal Democrats Conferences, producing the 'Chair's briefing'.
- To contribute to the planning of the fringe and external conference programme.
- To act as advisor to the MPs, AMs and Peers on policy matters as required.
- To liaise proactively with the federal policy unit.
- Carry out other tasks as may be identified from time to time.
