The National Association of Goldsmiths (NAG) represents companies and organisations that between them have over 2,500 retail jewellery outlets across the UK. We are known for our prominent roles in education, representation, security, ethics and standards, and for providing members with unparalleled benefits.
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Communications, you will be publicising the organisation through effective communications with national and trade journalists as well as managing our social media sites. You will also help to protect the organisation by acting as the main media contact for all inquiries and coordinating responses as appropriate.
On a practical level this will include managing our Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn page, updating our blog content regularly, and handling all media related activity. You will be required to attend industry events as and when appropriate so you will be expected to, on occasion, work evenings and weekends.
Using your specialist knowledge and experience, you will:
• Protect and enhance the reputation of NAG with external audiences through effective liaison with the media, managing difficult issues and promoting good news
• Build relationships and engagement with key trade and national journalists
• Give strategic and tactical media handling advice to the management team, board members, and the members of the organisation
• Proactively publicise key policies, membership activities, and campaigns, through proactive media campaigning and social media
Attributes required
• Sound understanding of PR strategies and tactics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Initiative and decisiveness, making sound decisions based on available evidence
• Good organisational and planning skills to manage your workload
• The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and under pressure
• Experience of working within the jewellery industry, trade associations, or with SME’S will be advantageous
