An opportunity has arisen at the British Society for Rheumatology to assist with policy work, public affairs, and media at a major healthcare charity. Based in a busy policy department, this placement will give you a valuable learning opportunity by supporting our staff and doctors in wide-ranging tasks which will be an excellent introduction to communications and the healthcare system/charity sector.

The internship will provide the candidate with the experience of a busy and challenging working environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with integrity who can undertake a wide variety of tasks.

During the placement the candidate will gain experience of:

  • Preparing and researching for policy documents and campaign materials
  • Monitoring developments in parliament and stakeholder organisations
  • Preparing correspondence with other organisations and with the public
  • Assisting with the organisation of events
  • Providing administrative and general office support to the policy and communications teams.

The successful candidate will have an interest in politics, the media or the health service, and be enthusiastic to increase their knowledge of these sectors.

In addition we would like the person to have:

  • Excellent people skills and a willingness to work as part of a team
  • Good organisational and IT skills and the ability to work under pressure with attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work on their own initiative
  • Enthusiasm to acquire new skills and learn quickly

The internship is located in our offices in central London.
