We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to assist Sarah Teather in both her parliamentary and constituency work. The role will be based mainly in the House of Commons but with some time spent in the constituency office in Willesden Green.
The successful applicant will have strong communication skills, experience handling media enquiries and will be responsible for ensuring that both of Sarah’s offices work together effectively.
The role includes both reactive and proactive media work, researching and providing briefing material for the MP on local issues, and drafting correspondence on related issues. The successful applicant should be highly organised with strong written and oral communication skills and an ability to work independently. Recent experience volunteering for the Liberal Democrats is also desirable.
Some evening and weekend work may be required, for example attending constituency surgeries or meetings with the MP.
Key Tasks
• Carry out research into local, regional and international issues as required, ensuring the MP is made aware of any relevant issues.
• Provide briefings, advice and guidance to the MP on policy issues affecting the constituency.
• Monitor coverage in the media.
• Provide advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others.
• Deal with daily queries from members of the public, taking the appropriate initial action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries.
• Draft responses or respond to constituents on any issues raised on behalf of the Member.
• Attend surgeries and other meetings to assist the MP in dealing with constituency issues.
• Assist with the work of other colleagues as required and communicate appropriately with internal and external contacts.
• Ensure records are kept, with details of each issue by adhering to the Data Protection Act principles and respect the confidentiality of data at all times.
