Job Details
We are looking for ambitious volunteers to help us develop our newsletter and make it a 'must read' for practical political education. This is a great opportunity for someone to show their ability in building a wide readership and develop relevant content.
Democracy Matters is an informal alliance of over 30 civil society umbrella groups and learning providers which aim to promote practical political education. See http://www.democracymatters.org.uk/about-us/alliance-members/.
Our newsletter promotes opportunities for training and development in campaigning, politics and public affairs for local communities, students, charities, voluntary organisations and young people.
We have over 400 subscribers and are looking for ambitious volunteers to help us keep track of training opportunities and reach more people using social media (blog, Facebook, Twitter etc).
There is also scope for volunteers to work on projects, such as
- Work on preparations for the Magna Carta anniversary in 2015
- Organise regular events in the House of Commons with an MP or elsewhere. Lobby MPs for practical political education. Promote practical political education in further and higher education
For more details of projects go to: http://www.democracymatters.org.uk/about-us/our-projects/.
Volunteers can work from home or the office of one of our members. Length of time and commitment is flexible, but we would like a commitment of 4 – 8 hours a week over several months or a year, or several days a week for a shorter period.
We are run entirely by volunteers and are fundraising for volunteer expenses and paid staff.
This would suit someone looking for experience in politics, journalism, information, marketing, fundraising, community action or organising events, with a commitment to deepening democracy and public participation on a non-partisan basis.
W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation. See http://www.w4mp.org/jobs-listings-events/jobs/
