Job Details

Whizz-Kidz is a national children’s charity that transforms the lives of disabled children and young people by providing the right mobility equipment to fit their young lives. But the right wheelchair is just the start. We also provide disabled children with opportunities to learn new skills and have fun through wheelchair skills training, work placements, and our clubs and camps. Our aim is to reach all of the 70,000 young people still waiting for the chance of a full and active childhood, and a bright future.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Policy Intern who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of disabled children and young people. Working within the small but dynamic Communications Team, the role will help to establish the charity as a leader in its sector by providing comprehensive research and support in driving the charity’s strategy to reach more children and young people via the NHS across the UK.

You will have an interest in and in-depth knowledge of social policy, particularly health, including the reforms to the NHS and the structures within it. An understanding of Parliament, Government and Government Departments would be beneficial.

You will have a proven ability to provide well-researched briefings and other written documents to deadline and to effectively monitor national, regional and trade press to provide intelligence and guidance on NHS and health policy, as well as identifying influential figures within the NHS.

The role would particularly suit a graduate or individual currently studying for a post-graduate qualification in social policy or similar, who is interested in pursuing a career in policy, health or charity communications.

You will possess excellent writing skills with the ability to produce engaging content for a variety of audiences and you should have the confidence to deal effectively with people at all levels.

This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months.
