David is looking for a full time research intern for a six month contract. The role will be based mainly in Westminster but spending some time in Tottenham. This is a paid position which will be ideal for a recent graduate looking to gain experience before embarking on a career in politics or public affairs. The successful candidate will be fully supported throughout their internship which will provide an opportunity to gain firsthand experience working in Parliament and scrutinising government policy, by assisting with the following:
- responding to correspondence from constituents and maintaining records;
- conducting research on a wide range of topics;
- drafting Parliamentary speeches and articles;
- attending meetings with David and taking notes;
- maintaining and updating David’s website;
- monitoring media; and
- general office tasks.
The ideal candidate will:
- likely have graduated from a research intensive course with at least an upper second class degree in politics or a related subject;
- have excellent written communications skills and will be able to demonstrate this as part of a written assessment;
- have good verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- have a committed interest in politics or current affairs with knowledge about Parliament and British Politics;
- have a proven track record of volunteering or similar work;
- have good IT skills; and
- be committed to the values and beliefs of the Labour Party.
