Job Details

The Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), a registered charity, associate Parliamentary group and the leading multi-modal transport safety think-tank, wishes to appoint two temporary interns: a Research Assistant and a Young Driver Ambassador.

The Research Assistant post has been created to contribute to a research project currently being undertaken by PACTS, on linking transport safety to sustainable travel and public health agendas. This project - which will result in a published report (Sept 2013) placed in the British Library and a conference on the topic in October - will place safety in a wider policy framework by examining synergies with sustainable travel and public health, and explore practical ways in which more joined-up working can deliver better outcomes.

The project is at the data collection stage and two meetings of expert reference boards are due to take place in July. The post holder will assist the Policy and Research Officer by doing background research, gathering information, and drafting summaries of their findings. They will also aid preparations and follow up for the reference board meetings.

A full job description is available on the PACTS website:

PACTS also wishes to recruit a Young Driver Ambassador to promote informed debate on young driver safety. The Government has announced its intention to publish a broad ranging Green Paper on the safety of young drivers. The Ambassador will engage in and stimulate debate on young driver safety, and related issues including motor insurance, telematics, etc, linked to the Government Green Paper. They will engage particularly with young people and parents, mainly using social networking media, and present the facts and to explore the arguments regarding young driver safety.

For this post applicants should be aged under 25 years and have recently (within three years) passed their practical driving test in England, Scotland or Wales.
