Based in the International Relations & Public Affairs department, reporting to the Public Affairs Manager, we have an opportunity for a passionate and proactive Public Affairs Officer to work within the International & Public Affairs team, supporting on all activities relating to local and national engagement.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the RFU’s Parliamentary engagement strategy, this role will manage day to day engagement with Parliamentary stakeholders, maintaining and improving existing relationships, building a wider network of rugby advocates, and managing relations with the Rugby Union APPG and Commons and Lords Rugby team.
  • Delivering aspects of the RFU’s Parliamentary Activity such as organising meetings and events in Westminster, at Party Conferences and elsewhere, to raise the profile of rugby amongst stakeholders.
  • Leading on local engagement of public affairs stakeholders, ensuring that MPs are engaged with rugby union in their constituencies.
  • Maintaining a public affairs grid of activity, and coordinating this with colleagues across the business.

In addition, working with the Public Affairs Manager this role will support on:

  • Monitoring the political and public affairs landscape to ensure that the RFU is fully informed in relation to relevant political, policy and personnel developments;
  • Monitoring the Government’s legislative programme, ensuring the RFU is aware of any proposals with implications for the sport of rugby union and helping to draft responses to Government, motions for resolutions and parliamentary questions;
  • Advising and supporting colleagues, volunteers and our member clubs on public affairs engagement
  • Preparing briefings for RFU Executives and Non Executives and external briefings for the Minister for Sport & Tourism, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and its officials on issues affecting rugby union.
