Job Details
Demos is looking to recruit two full-time interns to work on our Party Conference programme for 2013. Each year, Demos hosts around 50 events across the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat autumn conferences – ranging from breakfast seminars to in-conversation-with events and drinks receptions.
Party Conference interns work with our Events and Partnerships team to liaise with contacts, organise events and develop proposals. The role is very varied, but your day-to-day responsibilities would include activities such as:
- Carrying out research, writing and editing event proposals
- Managing relations with our conference partners
- Helping to produce event briefings and other materials
- Attending party conference, performing front-of-house duties at events, including setting up, registration and acting as an ambassador for Demos
- Alongside events duties, there will be opportunities to assist with Demos’ programme of research
- Office administration - all our interns help out with the day-to-day working of the office, assisting with tasks such as mail-outs, photocopying and answering the telephone
For this party conference season, we are looking for two interns, to work on the events we will be running at two of the conferences:
- Labour Party Conference intern – starting at the beginning of July
- Conservative Party Conference intern – starting at the end of July
Both positions would be full-time for 3 months. The role will be mainly office-based, but interns will also be expected to attend party conferences (all travel, food and accommodation costs will be covered by Demos).
This role requires a high level of organisation, and the ability to multi-task, as well as a friendly, outgoing and professional demeanour. A talent for problem solving, and the ability to keep calm under pressure are an advantage, and an interest in and understanding of current affairs and the British political system are essential. The role would suit anyone looking to begin a career in events, PR or public affairs, or alternatively, someone looking to gain experience in a political or policy-focused environment.
W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
