Frank Field MP is seeking to appoint a new Parliamentary researcher. The role, based in Mr Field’s House of Commons office, will cover primarily welfare, education and poverty policy, as well as additional ad hoc subject areas.
Job Description
• Research issues and prepare briefings to underpin Mr Field’s parliamentary activities.
• Research, develop, progress and promote campaigns, liaising with stakeholders when necessary.
• Manage media relations: liaise with the media, draft press releases and on- and off-line articles.
• Monitor parliamentary activity: legislation, motions, debates and questions.
• Liaise with colleagues in the Birkenhead constituency to promote Mr Field’s activities.
• Support the work of the Cross Party Group on Balanced Migration.
• Support Mr Field as chair of Liverpool City Region Poverty Commission.
• Liaise with Mr Field’s interests outside of Parliament (eg in particular The Foundation Years Trust and the Foundation Years Action Group).
• Respond to constituents on policy and some casework enquiries.
Person Specification
• Educated to degree level, with a strong academic record.
• Interest in economic and/or welfare policy.
• Demonstrable proficiency with statistics.
• Ability to absorb quickly new concepts and information, and to act on this with initiative and imagination.
• Ability to work quickly and flexibly, cope with a heavy work load, and complete tasks in a timely way.
• Excellent communication.
• Ability to remain discreet and maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Committed to serving the people of Birkenhead.
• Excellent IT skills.
• A keen interest in politics and current affairs.
