Key responsibility to manage the diary of a very busy Member of Parliament and to provide secretarial and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the Westminster office.

Essential Criteria:
• The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes, qualities and skills (which you should try to evidence in your covering letter):
(a) Be conscientiousness and self-motivated, able to work in a high pressured demanding sometimes stressful political office and be a self starter who has a diligent attention to detail
(b) A team player who can ‘muck in’ with the rest of the team and be willing to take on responsibilities outside of their job description and be able to ‘think outside the box’ whilst also having an ability to work independently
(c) Enthusiastic, flexible, reliable and hardworking individual with a positive outlook who is able to use initiative
(d) Excellent writing, oral and interpersonal communication skills and an ability to interact effectively with people at all levels using empathy, tact and diplomacy
(e) Exceptional organisational ability along with a methodical and logical approach to issues and outstanding time management/prioritisation
(f) Driven to achieving set goals, reaching targets and exceeding expectations
(g) First-rate proof reading skills
• Sympathetic to the views of the Conservative Party
• High level of ability to use databases
• Competent use of IT including Microsoft Office package (especially Outlook), email and internet and be willing to undertake Parliament’s IT courses particularly in relation to Outlook
Desirable Criteria:
• Previous Diary Management experience (and arranging meetings etc)
• Previous experience of Secretarial or Administration work
• Previous experience of working in Westminster/Politics (an interest in Politics/Parliament would be beneficial in this role)
• Previous experience of providing high level support
• Knowledge of CMITS
• An understanding of IPSA
• Awareness of Parliament procedures (in terms of organising tours/visits and receptions/events)
• Familiarity with the Derby/Derbyshire area

Applications must be received by Wednesday 3rd July 2013 at 12:00hrs (midday/noon) lunchtime at the very latest.
Potential interviewees will be required to complete a couple of tasks after which the final shortlist will be set up. Interviews are likely to take place on Monday 15th July 2013. If applicants have not heard by this time - then they should assume they have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
