This is a full-time post split three days a week for Sir Malcolm Bruce MP in Inverurie and two days a week for Alison McInnes MSP in Ellon. 

The purpose of the posts:

  • For Sir Malcolm Bruce - to work with the senior caseworker and the diary manager with the duties listed below.
  • For Alison McInnes – to work with the regional office manager with the duties listed below.

Main Duties of the Post

• Dealing with daily queries from members of the public, taking appropriate action to resolve, document or escalate their concerns or enquiries. You'll provide advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues through liaison with Government agencies, local councils, the voluntary sector and others. Managing your own caseload and progress of casework, you will ensure all cases are logged and updated with any actions taken and follow up outstanding queries, with urgent cases reported to the respective Members.

• Undertaking general administrative/secretarial tasks associated with the smooth running of an office; organising venues and advertising for MP’s surgeries; arranging constituency and regional visits for the Members with associated press notification; generating standard letter mailings and letters to constituents; ensuring office records are kept and an efficient filing system is in place and up to date.

• Assisting with the work of other colleagues as required and communicating appropriately with internal and external contacts.

• Preparing and issuing press releases and maintaining media relations

• Updating websites and social networking sites

• Developing e-communication with the electorate

• Maintaining regular contact, including handling correspondence with community groups, businesses and organisations across the constituency/region

• Preparation of newsletters

• Assisting in the response to mass lobby casework

Applicants should have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of both the Scottish and British political scene
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with a meticulous attention to detail and a friendly and polite telephone manner
  • An ability to work both independently and within a team to deadlines is essential
  • Good office IT skills
  • Sympathy with the values and aims of the Liberal Democrats.
