Job Details

IPPR is looking for an intern to work in its busy Press Office. The intern will work across all aspects of our Communications team’s work, specialising in proactive media relations, writing and editing articles and assisting with event organisation.

Duties

• Assisting in a busy press office, drafting press releases, editing and drafting articles and blogs, answering journalists’ inquiries and ringing round/cold calling journalists.
• Drafting website copy, uploading website content, clearing and distributing press releases, maintaining database of journalists and ‘merchandising’ media coverage.
• Assisting with event organising, running registration desks and taking photos and video at public events.
• General administrative assistance as required.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write copy for a range of audiences and formats based on complex, technical content e.g. press releases, blogs, articles, scripts and website content.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision to prioritise a busy workload
• Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to deal with people at all levels, internally and externally, in a confident, assertive and professional manner.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to organise and assist with events.
• Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office and CMS skills essential)
• Interest in UK public policy and politics and a commitment to IPPR’s values.
• An interest in a career in media relations and working in a Press Office environment.
• Experience of creating media (photos, video, audio) and publishing it in a variety of outputs (prezi, slideshare, YouTube).

Desirable:

• Experience of using ‘Vocus PR’ and with social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
