Vacancy has arisen for Caseworker to work part in the constituency in Erith and part in Westminster.

Key Criteria:

At least 2 years' experience in Immigration casework. Self-motivated and well-organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines and to prioritise urgent cases. A strong team player but also able to work on own initiative and independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to deal with constituents in a helpful, sympathetic and sensitive manner. Strong attention to detail. Able to demonstrate a commitment to the aims of the Labour Party. Excellent working knowledge of CFL, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer.

Key Tasks:

Provide advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues, most frequently on immigration, housing and benefits issues, through liaison with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve matters. Must have a minimum of two years' experience in Immigration advice. Includes work of a complex nature ability to work independently and to liaise with senior level contacts. Draft correspondence to be sent out independently.

Responsibilities:

Attend surgeries and other meetings to assist the Member. Deal with daily queries from members of the public by phone or in person, taking the appropriate initial action to resolve or document or escalate their concerns or enquiries. Gather information from constituents to progress or close the case in a sensitive and confidential manner. Manage own caseload and progress of casework, ensuring all cases are logged updated with any actions taken and outstanding queries are followed up, with urgent cases reported to the Member. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation as appropriate in dealing with casework. Ensure cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner. Competent use of IT including CFL, Microsoft Office, email and internet to support the above.
