Salary: £20,000 - £30,000 (According to IPSA pay scales. Recruitment will normally be at the bottom of the scale & dependent on skills/experience)

Job Details

Applicants must be politically motivated, proactive, able to carry out a broad range of tasks supporting the MP’s commitment to remain active, accessible, engaged and campaigning on behalf of constituents.

S/He will have the vision/passion to turn the MP’s work into profile raising opportunities reaching the right audience at the right time; identify, develop and deliver campaigns on key policies; communicate and engage people with campaign and the MP’s work; implement, manage and sustain a programme of community partnership and political community organising activities/events; building relationships with key stakeholders using traditional and new communication/campaigning methods.

S/he will be the constituency media contact responsible for media relations; writing /issuing press releases, quotes and articles on Julie’s work and; monitoring coverage and the media.

S/He will provide a full range of secretarial, personal and administrative assistance to Julie: including managing the Member’s constituency diary; with associated press notification; producing and maintaining written communication and dealing with the MP’s correspondence.

S/He will be able to shape the position, take an active role in recruiting, training and developing volunteers and for developing and managing campaigning and fundraising strategies that are at the heart of activity in the constituency.

S/he will ideally be a member of or willing to join the Labour Party, able to demonstrate a commitment to its aims, values, policies and membership.

Requires weekend and evening work.

Person Specification:

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Fluent in and a substantial command of the English language.

Able to communicate in a professional and politically sensitive manner.

Excellent organisational skills.

Able to think analytically, strategically and politically, display sound judgement and understanding of what it takes to work in a political environment.

Able to work under pressure, prioritise workload, to strict deadlines in a busy environment.

Qualification in a relevant subject or at least two years relevant experience in a similar role.

Broad knowledge of communications.

Understand what is required for community based working.

Experience of dealing with the media.

Well presented/portraying a professional image.

Interviews: 6/9/2013 in Westhoughton. Applicants must be available for interview on this date unless there are exceptional circumstances and by prior arrangement.
