Job Purpose
To work with members of the Policy Team, supporting Genetic Alliance UK’s public affairs, research and communication activities. Genetic Alliance UK informs and influences policy and practice, to drive change that will improve the lives of people affected by genetic conditions. An important component of Genetic Alliance UK’s ongoing policy work is the Rare Disease UK campaign.

Key Responsibilities
• Undertaking and assisting in information and evidence-gathering, research studies and inquiries.
• Summarising reports and policy documents, identifying critical information and preparing briefings for various audiences.
• Organising and undertaking events and meetings which will address key areas of our policy work.
• Providing written and oral presentations for internal and external audiences (including consultation responses and position statements).
• Producing publications (eg. reports and webpage content).
• General correspondence and communication with Genetic Alliance UK members and other external organisations and individuals.
• Communication of activities and news through traditional, electronic and social media.
• Developing and maintaining good relationships on behalf of Genetic Alliance UK including patient groups, healthcare professionals, industry, politicians, government officials and researchers.
• Attending relevant meetings/conferences, representing the organisation.
• Undertaking other reasonable tasks required by Genetic Alliance UK.

Personal Specification

Education and qualifications
• Graduate or equivalent experience.
• Good level of IT literacy.

Essential qualities, skills and experience:
• Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
• Able to undertake a range of different tasks simultaneously.
• Able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, able to write clear and logical documents.
• Able to undertake tasks both as part of a team and independently.
• Enthusiasm and a willingness to take on a range of tasks.
• A commitment to the aims and objectives of Genetic Alliance UK.
