Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham and Amersham, is searching for a highly organised, motivated and amiable individual to join her busy Westminster office. This exciting role would ideally suit a recent graduate who is keen gain some valuable experience of working for a Conservative MP.

The successful applicant will help to provide secretarial and administrative support to Cheryl and her team in Westminster and occasionally in the constituency. Specific responsibilities could include:

  • Dealing with incoming telephone calls
  • Opening and dispatching mail
  • Drafting correspondence
  • Photocopying, scanning and formatting documents
  • Ensuring that the filing system is up-to-date
  • Organising meetings
  • Ordering stationery and monitoring the office stock
  • Supporting the updating of Cheryl’s website
  • Attending meetings and taking notes
  • Organising tours of the Houses of Parliament for constituents

The applicant must have:

  • Good communication skills and telephone manner
  • Outstanding written skills
  • The ability to multitask
  • A keen attention to detail
  • A willingness to complete work quickly, to a high standard, often under pressure
  • A sympathetic attitude towards the aims of the Conservative Party

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
