Job Details

Great opportunity to work in busy Westminster office (sometimes Constituency Office) for an Opposition Whip and Chair of the Labour Party Business Interest Group. Occasional evenings or weekends.

  • Manage the Member’s Diary and constituency commitments.
  • Coordinate weekly diary file with briefings.
  • Keep on top of diary requests.
  • Schedule team meetings and events. Follow up visits and meetings.
  • Manage set up and running of events in Parliament.
  • Manage events organised by the MP in the constituency.
  • Support policy casework.
  • Ensure office is kept tidy, records and efficient filing system are maintained.
  • Support Parliamentary Assistant in research for parliamentary activity, campaigns, local media monitoring.
  • Deal sensitively and confidentially with constituent matters.
  • Adhere to Data Protection Act principles. Respect confidentiality of data.
  • Demonstrable Feltham and Heston constituency knowledge.
  • Attend events with or on behalf of the Member as needed.

Essential Criteria
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes, qualities and skills. Try to evidence in your covering letter:

(b) A team player who can ‘muck in’ with the rest of the team and take on responsibilities outside of their job description, think creatively and work independently
(c) Enthusiastic, flexible, reliable and hardworking individual with a positive outlook and initiative
(d) Excellent writing, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Able to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, community or senior stakeholders
(e) Exceptional organisational ability with methodical and logical approach to issues. Outstanding time management/prioritisation. Pro-active problem solving
(f) Driven to achieving set goals, own personal development and exceeding expectations. First-rate proof reading skills
(g) Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
(h) Competent use of IT including Microsoft Office package: Outlook, email, website, databases and social media

Previous high level Diary Management experience (arranging meetings etc) and office administration an advantage, particularly in Westminster/Whitehall. Knowledge of South Asian or European languages desirable.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Candidates may be required to complete a couple of simple tasks before shortlisting. Interviews to take place on Thursday 15th or Friday 16th May 2014. Applicants who have not heard by this time should assume they have been unsuccessful.
