About us

Mama Youth Project is a registered charity that aims to increase diversity in the TV industry and curb unemployment for disadvantaged young people (particularly BAME and white working class). MYP works with its trainees to equip them with the right skills and work ethics and help them secure meaningful employment. Over the last 4 years 81% of our participants have still been in paid employment or a work placement 6 months after the completion of their course. To find out more about our unique training model and our corporate partnerships with BBC and Sky, please go to: www.mamayouthproject.org.uk.

Role overview

This year, the charity aims to expand its existing relationships with trusts and foundations and forge new ones that will lead to new income streams. Thus, we are seeking a Trusts and Foundations Fundraising Volunteer to work with our Head of Strategy to research new opportunities and write grant applications.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to gain experience in the voluntary sector organisation and put their fundraising and grant writing skills into practice. You will be responsible for identifying and researching charitable trusts and foundations, writing funding applications, and communicating with potential donors. Should funding be secured this way, the charity might be able to look at offering a paid position.

Skills

• Some experience in trust fundraising (desirable)
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Excellent research skills
• Good attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and increase knowledge in trust fundraising

Time commitment

We are hoping to find someone who will be able to volunteer for at least 10-15 hours a week for a minimum of 3 weeks. However, we are happy to work around your schedule and find a flexible solution that will work for both sides.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation. Closing Date: 23 May 2014

Interview/Start Dates

We are looking to appoint someone as soon as possible, even before the closing date. If you are only able to volunteer later in the year, please get in touch and we can look at viable options.

Please send your CV and a short covering letter to Lendon Lumsden at lendon@mamayouthproject.org.uk.  In your covering letter please outline what you would like to gain from volunteering with Mama Youth Project and how you would be able to use your existing skills and experience to support our work.
