Job Details

This is a public affairs job, with a dash of PR thrown in.  You will need to demonstrate both real experience and proper understanding of local government. Theoretical and/or academic knowledge alone just won't be enough. A good knowledge of Westminster and national government will be important too. Experience working with the media would be a plus.

The job also requires exceptional communications skills.  We'll ask to see pieces you have written, and we'll be looking for a level of competence at or close to professional journalism standards. You'll need to be articulate, confident and well-presented, as you may be required to play a key role in meetings and presentations.

A top degree from a top university is not an absolute requirement, but if you have taken another route, we'll be looking for evidence of outstanding intellect nevertheless, as that's what the job requires.

A good and well-read understanding of current affairs is vital for this role, along with an informed understanding of environmental issues.  If you don't read the Economist, you're probably not for us.

You are likely to be asked to travel outside London, and on occasion, this may mean nights away.

Closing Date: 16 May 2014
