The National Citizens Service is a government funded programme for 16-17 year olds which takes place throughout the year. Elevation Networks' Summer NCS Programme will take place over a 4 week period during which time the young people will complete 2 residentials (one in an outdoor activity centre and one in a university) and commit 30 hours to a social action project designed to address a problem in their local community.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Team Assistants for both waves of the programme.

Job Purpose: The purpose of your job role is to support the team leader and the young people to participate in the National Citizen Service Programme on a residential basis.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Assist with the coordination of a team of 15 participants during the residential phase of the programme
• To ensure the safety of participants in accordance with the project’s safeguarding, equality and diversity guidelines
• Guiding team discussions and tasks in accordance with the project outcomes
• Work with other external project staff to ensure participants are supported to achieve the objectives for the residential
• To work as directed by the NCS Programme Co-ordinator and team leader

Person Specification: Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Basic knowledge of the local region community and surrounding areas
• Strong leadership and project management skills
• An understanding of the needs of 16-17 year olds and what engages them
• Excellent communication and team building skills
• Good organisational and decision making skills
• Ability to handle challenging situations and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to take ownership of tasked areas of responsibility
• A passion and enjoyment about working with young people

Desirable

• Experience of volunteering or working with young people of the target age group
• Previous knowledge of the NCS programme and/or experience working on the NCS
• Experience of working directly with young people with disabilities
• A current first aid qualification
• A recent and valid DBS certificate (enhanced or standard)

Interviews will be conducted on a case by case basis. Recruitment will close once all positions have been filled.

Wave 1: 7 July-18 July 2014 AND/OR Wave 2: 28 July - 8 August 2014.
