Job Title: Campaign Volunteers
Working For: Gavin Barwell MP (Croydon Central)
Salary: Voluntary with lunch and travel expenses
Gavin Barwell is looking to recruit campaign volunteers to support his work as the Member of Parliament for Croydon Central and work on his re-election campaign between September 2014 and March 2015. Placements would ideally be for a minimum of two weeks, although given the positons are voluntary those appointed could clearly leave at any point.
Successful applicants will be based at the headquarters of Croydon Conservatives in Purley and gain a detailed insight into both the work of an MP and a political campaign in a highly marginal seat including:
• opinion research;
• production and distribution of campaign literature;
• voter contact;
• data entry; and
• attendance at campaign team meetings.
Ideal candidates will:
• have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• be self-motivated;
• have an eye for detail;
• be IT literate;
• have knowledge of, and sympathy for, the aims and policies of the Conservative Party; and
• ideally, have access to a car.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
