Job Details

We’re looking for an outstanding candidate to join the Royal Statistical Society, one of the UK's eminent learned societies and a leader in influencing the debate on the role of data, evidence and well-informed decision-making in today's economy and society. Working as part of a friendly and professional team you will play a critical role in a dynamic and changing organisation, where you will help deliver our new strategy to ensure data, statistics and evidence are at the heart of understanding and decision making across all areas of society.

As part of our new strategy we have been increasingly active in highlighting the critical role of data and evidence in decision making, and we have influenced debates in a wide range of areas, from misperceptions about social issues in the general public, to the debate on the future of the Census. We provide thought leadership and a home for informed debate in areas such as big data, data privacy, open data, and the need for an education system which ensures a properly skilled workforce can deal with data and numbers.

We’re looking for an experienced public affairs and press manager who has a solid understanding of the policy and media world and is attuned to new developments which provide opportunities to increase our influence. Drawing on the expertise of our membership and staff you will take the lead in communicating our policy agenda through the delivery of multi-faceted public affairs campaigns (including the organisation of a range of events) to target key decision-makers in parliament, government, academia and business. You will have experience of developing and implementing proactive and reactive media strategies, have proficiency in working in a fast-changing media context and understand how it shapes our visibility and influence. You will be able to think creatively and to deliver the work to a high standard, with a keen eye for detail. You will have demonstrable experience of delivering a high-impact blend of strategic thinking and operational delivery in a complex and fast-paced environment.

Closing Date: 1 September 2014
