Fight for Peace is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a part-time Communications Assistant role on a 1 year fixed term contract at our community-based sports and education youth Academy within the Borough of Newham. Reporting directly to the Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Communications Team in all communications work across the two Academies that make up Fight for Peace. The successful candidate will be expected to:

Content:
- To proof read and revise written content in English for the London and Rio Academies
- To create website, organisational and social media content for the London Academy
- To carry out translations from Portuguese in to English
- To come up with ideas for website stories for the London Academy

Internal Communications:
- To produce communications material for all departments of the London Academy
- To put together posters and informative monthly newsletter to be put up around the Academy
- To be able to work with templates to create such material

Social Media:
- Assist the rest of the Communications Team with the management of the London Academy Facebook and Twitter

Media Relations:

- Support all visits to the Academy by liaising with press and photographers
- Organise all material from such visits to prepare for the website

Photography:
- To regularly take photos of day-to-day activities at the London Academy
- To regularly send photos to the Rio Academy to update the photo bank there
- To coordinate photographers for all visits and events at the London Academy

Person Specification

- Educated to degree level
- A minimum of two years' experience working in a similar communications role with proven and balanced editorial judgement
- Fluent in English and Portuguese
- Ability to translate from English to Portuguese and vice versa
- Excellent writing, proof reading and editing skills
- Highly organised and deadline focused
- Intermediate photography skills
- Good IT skills are desirable such as knowledge of Wordpress, Illustrator and Photoshop;
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills at all levels
- A good understanding of issues surrounding youth involvement in offending, violent behaviour and gangs within inner-city areas in the UK would be a bonus
