The Whitehouse Consultancy is looking to fill the role of an experienced political consultant to provide support to the team dealing with the food and nutrition policy.

The successful candidate will lead on tasks allocated for specific clients following discussions with the Senior Consultant, work with the client lead to establish long term strategic approach and support on the delivery of the agreed strategy, provide regular updates to the client lead and line manager, and liaise with the monitoring team to provide timely updates to clients on points of relevance.

The successful candidate would ideally have detailed knowledge of British politics and the workings of the EU.

Core responsibilities:

  • Providing detailed guidance to clients on the interplay between a variety of European laws in the food and nutrition sector.
  • Liaising with external individuals or bodies.
  • Attending client meetings with Parliamentarians and officials and carrying forward action, briefing clients before or after each meeting and actively contributing during discussions.
  • Ensuring that you are up to date with issues in the sector which affect the clients.
  • Taking a lead role on tasks allocated for specific clients following discussion with the client lead; independently managing the day-to-day tasks and actions required to service client accounts; providing the day to day point of contact for clients.
  • Drafting and overseeing the production and quality control of written correspondence, briefings, research, meeting packs and reports, public policy position statements and target lists of Parliamentarians and officials.
  • Supporting internal communications, in particular where our role is to provide Secretariat services to a trade body or other coalition of companies and organisations.

Experience required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Experience in a political and public policy making role in Brussels, Westminster, Whitehall, think tanks, NGOs or the private sector.
  • Good working knowledge of the legislative and political process in the EU and the UK.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office packages.
  • Fluent in English.
  • An enthusiasm for politics and a desire to work in public affairs.

Experience desired:

  • Knowledge of health policy and food regulation, both national and European.
  • Knowledge of foreign languages would be desirable.
