Exciting role ideal for a newly qualified secretary. The successful candidate will work for Baroness McDonagh across her parliamentary, business, not-for-profit and personal interests. The role will involve working between Oxford Circus and the House of Lords.

Essential Skills:
• Good secretarial skills: fast, accurate typing (minimum 50 wpm), audio typing preferable
• Computer literate (advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Internet proficient, capable of using the internet as a research tool
• Flexible and willing approach to working hours/break times, punctual
• Team player but capable of using initiative, prioritising issues and communicating information and important issues as required
• Professional, discreet and diplomatic manner
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Confident at meeting deadlines
• Able to communicate clearly and confidently, including liaising with senior figures
• Friendly, hardworking, confident, unflappable, level headed

Managerial and PA Duties:
• Diary management, room bookings
• Processing incoming post, faxes and emails
• Answering the telephone, accurately taking and relaying messages
• Typing up correspondence, composing letters, coordinating mass mailouts when required
• Producing well designed Powerpoint presentations
• Booking travel and arranging itineraries
• Meeting and greeting visitors, preparing refreshments for meetings
• Maintaining an effective filing system and accurate up to date contacts database
• Willing to learn how to invoice and keep financial records, chase payments and liaise with accountants
• Numerate and willing to do basic calculations eg VAT
• Completing expenses, processing invoices etc
• Responsibility for keeping office stocked with stationery and refreshments
• Running errands, personal work
• Assisting with organisation and management of events
• Other ad-hoc duties as required
Desirable but not key:
• Knowledge/interest in the workings of the Houses of Parliament
• Knowledge of current affairs

Terms:
• 20 days holiday increasing to 25 after 2 years
• Hours: 9.30am-6.00pm

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
