Job Details

The GMC is the independent regulator for doctors in the UK. Our aim is to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the community by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine.

The Fitness to Practise directorate plays a key part in this by deciding on the policies by which medical professionals are judged. Working here, you’ll help shape those policies, determining the future of the GMC, not to mention the health profession as a whole.

£29,078- £36,055 + benefits

In this role, your busy workload will involve assisting with a range of policy and planning projects, playing an active part in the development of new policies and fielding queries on complex policy issues, although you must be willing to help out with day-to-day administration. As you gain a greater insight into our work, you’ll be given more exposure and responsibility.

With your policy background, we’ll expect you to quickly acquire knowledge of fitness to practise policy and relevant legislation. As well as having strong admin and IT skills, you’ll need the ability to communicate with people at all levels, plus the professionalism and composure to facilitate discussions. You will also be expected to liaise closely with the change management team to implement new ways of working.

Analysing complex information and issues, and communicating these effectively to people at all levels, you’ll also prepare and present policy papers to external meetings, working groups and conferences.

With a background in policy development and project management, your understanding of legal terminology and processes will allow you to quickly familiarise yourself with our Fitness to Practise policies and all relevant legislation. Combining a confident management style with sound judgement, you’ll be able to deal with difficult situations and prioritise a busy and varied workload. Excellent IT skills are also a must, with knowledge of Siebel Systems a distinct advantage.
