Location: London

Salary: £18,500 to £19,000 PA

Length of Contract:

Job Details

Mitcham and Morden Labour Party is recruiting a Trainee Organiser for all aspects of election planning, volunteer recruitment and campaign management. Previous Mitcham and Morden campaigners have gone on to become MPs and Labour party officers.

This is a one year campaign role and by the end you will be able to run all types of community and election campaigns.

We appoint for potential not attainment so no formal qualifications are required. We are looking for an outgoing and welcoming individual who is prepared to work hard and shares our values.

You should be trustworthy, and able to motivate a wide variety of people and deliver results to tight deadlines.

Once trained, responsibilities will include:

  • Organising canvassing and leafleting sessions, phoning volunteers to ensure attendance.
  • Membership recruitment and retention.
  • Identifying, welcoming and encouraging volunteers. The ability to build teams is the most important skill to acquire in this role.
  • Developing local fundraising activities.
  • Supporting the MP by, for example, managing her work in the constituency office, dealing with constituents who call or visit the constituency office, helping organise local meetings like coffee mornings, arranging constituency meetings, liaising with local stakeholders, and ensuring that casework is identified and progressed.
  • Managing our office, ensuring it is clean and tidy.
  • On occasion, participating in events or campaigns outside of Mitcham and Morden. Local Organisers should be able to drive or be in the process of learning to drive.

The successful candidate should be

  • Welcoming and outgoing, encouraging all members. We are not looking for someone who will sit at their computer all day.
  • Organised, happy working to targets and on their own initiative.
  • Able to communicate concisely both verbally and in writing, and to supervise the production of written material.
  • Personable and comfortable asking people to do things, such as raising money, joining etc.
  • A member of the Labour Party – previous volunteering within the party would be helpful.

Training is on the job, not classroom-based. Hours are not 9-5, so you will be expected to operate on a flexible basis and undertake such tasks as shall, from time to time, be required. As such, hours are unspecified but there is an expectation of some evening and weekend working.
