Job Title: Research Assistant

Working For: Henry Jackson Society

Location: London

Charity Number: 1140489

Salary: Voluntary (3 days a week)

Length of Contract:

Job Details

The Henry Jackson Society is a leading British foreign policy think-tank supporting transatlantic relations, a robust international security policy and the fight for democracy, liberty and human rights worldwide as a central focus for British, US and European foreign policy.

We are currently offering part-time Research Assistant internship opportunities for our rolling internship programme. The next tranche of appointments is imminent and interns should ideally be willing to commit to a period of at least 3 months in duration.

Interns will be involved in every aspect of our international programme – covering research, events, media and parliamentary liaison, publications, and administration (which includes transcribing events) – and will be given responsibility for specific projects as well as being expected to provide general assistance. You will also have the opportunity to become involved with the agenda and programming for the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Transatlantic & International Security, and Homeland Security and the European Convention on Liberal Democracy.

We are looking for motivated self-starters who are capable of acting independently and who possess the capacity to absorb and execute instructions quickly in a busy environment. In return you will get a full immersion in the British IR world as well as the opportunity to make international contacts and be part of an organisation pioneering new techniques in the British think-tank environment.

Experience of research and the international relations field – either academically or professionally – preferred, but not essential for the main internships (though an international security background is advantageous for the APPG element and will be taken into consideration for this specific component part). More important is a clear writing style, and a willingness to get stuck in to both important and run of the mill tasks and to act as a team player. Sympathy with our foreign policy principles.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
