Founded in 2006, Only Connect is a registered crime prevention charity and a positive community, providing training, support and creative opportunities to help prisoners, ex-offenders and young people at risk of crime realise their own value. We see the people we work with as assets for London, with a contribution to make to the wellbeing of everyone in our city.

Following successful growth since 2006, we are looking for additional support in our development team to assist in the planning, support and delivery of events. We are looking for an energetic self starter with previous office based experience and an interest in the charity events market and Only Connect’s work. Skills which would support your application include: strong communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with supporters; confidence in using Microsoft Office packages; strong organisational skills and great attention to detail.

The placement will begin in September 2014 and last a maximum of four months. We require a commitment of a minimum of three days each week, though this is flexible to fit around employment or study. Applicants will need to be willing to volunteer at some evening and weekend events when required.

• You will gain an insight into third sector work in the area of crime prevention/criminal justice
• You will gain an understanding of the broad range of fundraising undertaken by Only Connect
• You will gain knowledge of the basic principles of event management and experience of organising and attending events
• You will build upon your written and oral communication skills and experience the development of various engagement tools and marketing materials
• You will develop your networking and interpersonal skills and gain an understanding of the importance of facilitating strong relationships with funders, external partners and suppliers
• You will develop key numeracy skills and business acumen through supporting with the management of event budgets and contributing to the fundraising target and strategic objectives of the Development team
• Special opportunities with other programmes outside of the Development team can be put in place to focus on specific development areas.
