The Organiser will be responsible for all aspects of local organisation in the Barnsley local government area.

S/he will be responsible for building and maintaining party organisation and activity and establishing an effective election and campaigning organisation for all elections including all local and by-elections within the designated area.

The post holder will report as directed to the Regional Director.

Specific Responsibilities:

· Building up membership and membership activity in the constituencies within the area in line with the Party's aims and objectives;
· Reporting on the level of all activity, organisation and the effective operation of Party rules in each of the constituencies to Regional Director;
· Providing training on election techniques, production of newsletters, voter ID (doorstep and telephone), registration and postal votes;
· Developing local fundraising and fundraising schemes to ensure CLPs in the area have adequate funding to contest elections, campaign, between elections and make agreed contributions towards employment costs;
· Identifying and developing the skills of members in the designated areas and to build relationships between CLPs to facilitate twinning.

The job will involve:

· Supporting Local Policy Forums and other initiatives to promote a dialogue on policy issues;
· Developing communications systems with branches, members and other units of the party and affiliated organisations in the area to promote Labour's achievements and Party activities;
· Maintenance of party websites ensuring regular updates to relevant content and development and delivery of an effective social media strategy;
· Organising campaign events within the constituencies in their area;
· Working with council candidates and prospective parliamentary candidates, MPs and MEPs to motivate and organise the members in preparation for Local and General Election Campaigns;
· Liaising with Labour Groups within the area on all local Government matters and on the party policy and constitution in relation to local Government.
