SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK, and Ireland with around 9 million customers and over 20,000 staff. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Networks Communications Manager based in Perth or Reading.

You will manage and deliver external communications for SSE Networks, through online, social and traditional media channels.

Reporting to the Head of Communications and as part of the Networks media team, your responsibilities will include managing a forward planner and weekly meetings to implement the media strategy.

Your responsibilities will extend to proactively seeking opportunities for positive media coverage for SSE's Networks business and contributing content to SSE Group media channels. Overseeing the smooth running of the Networks 24/7 media office, you will take responsibility and be part of the media rota while ensuring that timely response to journalists requests are consistently met.

A key area of this role will be to closely monitor the media agenda while keeping all relevant parts of the Networks business informed of any developments which may have implications for the business and its customers. It is essential that an excellent knowledge of the news and political agenda as it relates to SSE's Networks is maintained and opportunities to exploit issues and developing stories to communicate our key messages are identified.

To be successful in this role you should have an understanding of, or the willingness to learn, the issues involved in the energy transmission and distribution sectors. You should have excellent interpersonal, communications and writing skills. Experience of online/print/broadcast journalism, constructing engaging narratives and storytelling would be a distinct advantage. Ideally, you will be a digital native who feels at home with writing blogs and creating content for social media and digital campaigns.

Demonstrating a good work ethic, you should have a drive for results and success while delivering a high standard of work. A flexible working approach is essential to this role.
