A leading central London local authority is recruiting an external affairs expert to manage public affairs, press and stakeholder relations activity for a high profile campaign at a critical time for the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in influencing the outcome of a major development project which will significantly impact the local community and business. The authority has a project team specifically focused on managing communications around this enormously high profile campaign. As the public affairs lead within the communications function, you will work closely with senior Councillors and other political stakeholders to provide best practice political advice and government relations support to ensure the best possible outcome for the authority. You will also support on media relations, setting the direction of the wider programme communications strategy.

The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for providing briefings for the Leader of the Council, developing and maintaining a stakeholder engagement strategy with a variety of political stakeholders, and monitoring government activity to identify and support on proactive and reactive public affairs opportunities, including consultation responses and select committee activity.

This role operates within a complex stakeholder environment and requires expert political nous and gravitas to ensure effective outcomes, political engagement and positioning. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in shaping the development and representation of a campaign affecting a large volume of London residents. The breadth of communications disciplines covered also affords the appointed candidate an opportunity to utilise and develop expert skills across public affairs and media relations. The role will run for at least 12 months, with potential to extend.
