NLGN is the think tank for localism. Our mission is to inspire the councils of tomorrow and we do that through a mix of leading-edge research and stimulating events.
This is a new post to provide support across the organisation. Your time will be spent helping with research and reports, organising events and producing write-ups for our partners.
It’s a great time to join NLGN. All the main political parties are committed to devolving power, but they need help to do it. We provide the answers.
Please note that this job will be offered initially as a one-year contract, with potential for extension.
Purpose of Job
To contribute to the policy and events output of NLGN through effective research, events planning, project management, and high quality writing.
Main responsibilities
- To assist in conducting rigorous research, using appropriate methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- To support the events manager in delivering research events, including writing marketing materials, promoting events, organising event logistics and delivering events on-the-day.
- To develop policy knowledge and understanding in areas relevant to NLGN policy work and to keep abreast of developments in relevant national policy.
- To assist in the writing of a range of high quality written materials such as research reports and event write-ups.
Other responsibilites
To undertake other reasonable duties as specified by the Head of Policy and Research and to contribute to the corporate activities of NLGN.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
ESSENTIAL
- Experience of delivering research projects and research skills across a range of methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Experience of organising and delivering events, including writing marketing materials and engaging with external stakeholders.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, high levels of personal organisation and ability to work under your own initiative and by direction.
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude to collaborative working.
DESIRABLE
- Experience of working within a social policy research role.
- Understanding of local government in England and the wider policy context.
