With more than 150,000 members in 127 countries, we share and advance knowledge throughout the global engineering and technology community. We also have a significant role to play in the formation of policy, and this is an opportunity to spend 6 months making a real and lasting impact in this arena.

Reporting to the Principal Policy Advisor (Education and Innovation) and supporting two of the IET’s policy panels, you will help provide expert understanding and analysis on a wide range of engineering policy issues. Working with IET volunteers and staff, as well as staff from other engineering institutions, you will prepare submissions for parliament and other decision-making bodies, produce briefings for IET members and the public, and generate influential reports for audiences including Government and the media.

Educated to degree level or equivalent in Engineering or Social/Political Science, you will be able to combine an understanding of the education system with a demonstrable interest in public policy, politics and government issues. It will be particularly advantageous to have experience of policy formation and/or public affairs work, including informing and influencing MPs, Ministers and Civil Servants.
