Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with 12,000 women dying from the disease each year. This is an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience of policy, public affairs and campaigning in the charity sector by contributing to the vital work of the UK’s leading breast cancer charity.

Our Policy and Campaigns Team internships provide an excellent opportunity to help drive health and science research policy at a time of significant NHS change. The team is looking for an enthusiastic intern to help with a varied range of activities. The successful candidate will gain invaluable experience in policy, public affairs and campaigning, which means this role is an ideal springboard for someone interested in working in health policy or parliamentary affairs.

What will you be doing?

We take great care in planning your workload to ensure you have an interesting variety of tasks and the chance to gain experience of all the various activities that fall under the Policy and Campaigns team’s remit.

Tasks will include:

  • Playing a key organisational role in parliamentary activities supporting our flagship wear it pink fundraising event in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • Assisting with Campaign’s public affairs activity by engaging and communicating with politicians and other key stakeholders in advance of the party conferences
  • Supporting the delivery and implementation of our two ongoing campaigns: ‘Spread the word’ and ‘Unlock drugs’
  • Undertaking policy research and analysis into issues affecting health and medical research
  • Maintaining and updating Campaign’s contact database
  • Assisting with parliamentary monitoring

Essential skills:

  • Interest in health and/or science policy and the charity sector
  • Some knowledge and interest in the UK political process
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Flexible and enthusiastic attitude

Additional information:

  • Duration: Minimum of 4 months
  • Hours: Ideally we would like you to commit to a minimum of three days per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours available between 9am – 6pm
